Slippery deception

Last Sunday I visited yet another church, looking for somewhere to have fellowship. And yet again, I found what is probably the most common deception out there…Claiming that justification is not of works, but then adding the doubletalk of backloading works (repentance of sins) as a validation of salvation before God.

Sometimes people will cite James to justify this sort of doctrine. But James’ point, is about being justified before men…not God.

The book of John, Romans 3 & 4, Galatians, Ephesians 2, and a slew of other bible references make it crystal clear…Salvation is received without any works whatsoever, (not having to turn from one single sin); believing on Christ + nothing is the only way of salvation.

Salvation is entirely by grace through faith.

Romans 4.2-5

2“For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”

Hebrews 4.9,10

“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”

Be vigilant my friend, of the deception of backloading works from those who claim it’s faith alone.
